Speedy Sprint Tri Report: Whooped by a 53 yr old and a Dude...

Hi All! This will be a speedy version of my sprint triathlon. In fact it'll be so speedy I'm recapping a lot in bullet style. Yah, I'm crazy like that.

Pre-Race
* Admission: I wasn't planning to race. But three of my four athletes I coached had to back out last minute, and I didn't want to leave one hanging, so I hopped on board.

* Race morning:

* Set up was EZ breezy.

800 yd Swim:
* Second Admission: I have not swam in probably six weeks. So let's just say I was looking forward to getting the swim over with.

* The swim was cut short by oh maybe ~300 yds (yes!), so stoked with that.

* Not stoked on my performance. I honestly breast stroked ~150 yds.

Swim time: ~12 min. That would be fabulous if it were a true 800, but t.r.u.s.t me...it was not. More like a ~500

11 mile semi- hilly Bike:
* First time I tried having my shoes on the bike running out of T1 and it worked!

* Felt strong- passed a lot o' people who smoked me on the swim;-)

* Final Bike time: ~38 min

3 mile trail/road Run:
*Had a fast T2 time

*Felt great on the run

* Saw the First OA Female, and she was blazing prob 5 min ahead

* Saw the Second OA Female who looked a bit older and prob 4 min ahead

* A lil' past the half way point, I caught up to the Third OA Female (whom I believed was in third)

* I passed her

* She passed me back

* I managed to pass her again...for good. (Talk about racing being mental!!)

* Final Run time: 19:46

In the end, I thought I may have been Third OA Female. I was S.T.O.K.E.D on that!

However, later they announced the Top Over All Females, and the second OA was a  FIFTY THREE year old rock star! Then they announced 'Dylan Ross' as the third OA winner. Huh? I didn't see her or any female around me during the run, but the swim was a self start, so maybe she started out late. Bummer! But hey, it's all good.

And when I was in line to pick up the lil' winning AG loot, the other gals were equally curious who this 'Dylan Ross' gal was. None of us saw her out there.

Well, I just had to investigate further. So that night, I looked up Dylan Ross on Athlinks, and yeah, the list of race times were fast. So I clicked on one of the races, and it showed Dylan Ross...was a MALE! Ah-ha! Mystery Solved! He/She must have marked the wrong box and got listed on the female side.

So I reached out to the timing company with my insights, and they were so glad I did as they had a few other ps inquire- but had no proof.

Well, All righty row! I'll take that Third OA thank you very much!

Here's a shot of me with 2 athletes I trained with over the weekend at the TriSonoma Clinic (you can get a feel of the water, swim exit, etc):
So what's my take away from this race?

Well, weather means a lot. It was simply gorgeous, so made it fun to race. My tri/race experience carried me through despite a poo-poo swim. I felt strong on the run and look forward to listening to my feet and racing a few 10k's and halves this Summer and Fall.

And...Breast stroke ain't such a bad thing..HA!
Thanks so much for listening friends. Here's to the beginning of RACE SEASON!;-)

Wooo! WAY TO GO! Big congrats to you!

What I don't understand is the puffy green vest in the first picture. LOL! I can't get enough clothes off of me these days. It's been 91F for weeks! ;-)

That is awesome! Way to do it :) Love the breast stroke admission and the way you hunted down Dylan Ross!
You are amazing!! A sub 20 on the run and it wasn't just running. wow! I don't know much about Triathlons as I mentioned on my giveaway today but this, along with some e-mails I've gotten today kind of inspires me to do one! Congrats to you!

Congrats! That's an awesome run time - way to make up some ground. Totally agree about the weather can make/break a tri (or any race)!

Yeah for the shoes-on-the-bike thing!

And good sleuthing on Dylan!
