What's Working...and Not so Much Wednesday!

What's Working:
1. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care....
All right...it ain't a legit chimney, but it's the next best thing; our own fireplace dvd baby! We've been 'stokin' this fire now for ~ six plus years. We start using it on Thanksgiving, and leave it going thru the first week of Jan. I swear I feel warmer when I turn it on...;)

2. Being (semi) proactive with my food intakes. After the last ~5 days, I realized I was FEELIN' the holiday gluttony, and more than half of it was from just relying on what food was being served for the parties/outings attended. So this week, I'm packing my own food to go, declining a dinner, and making sure I get enough VEGGIES/water so I feel in check.


What's NOT working:
1. Aw... ain't she a beaute. Too bad this is the closest I've been to my bike this week, via a photo!  I'm not getting in my spins on my bike trainer. wah. I know it's the holidays and it's okay to relinquish the need to get in a 45-60 min workout...but my body and mind feel it! And then coupled w/more koo-koo food and drink? ay, ay, ay...

What's not working for me this week is my body! I am sore and tight all over and I don't know why! I guess I need to add yoga back in the mix like I said I was going to do at the start of Operation Iron!

I haven't been on my bike either...ugh! Part of it is because what's not working for me right now is being sick! Ugh!! I hate being sick! It just screws everything up!

Workin': got some new shoes! (Brooks Ghost)...and they are awesomeee so far! I also got some new tights and managed to handle a 6 mile run last night here even though it was only 10 degrees! I can't believe I'm putting a cold run under the "workin'" category!

Not workin': Day 3 of trying to quit coffee... omg. I've been drinking this herbal coffee-tasting stuff called "teecino" instead, and while it's pretty good all things considered, I miss my little caffeine pick-me-up. I might cave now and go make a pot of the good stuff... I'm headachey and unmotivated :(

I love your "fireplace." My workouts are working really well this week, but my holiday preparations are not. Homemade gifts are better in theory than in practice :)

I am getting a lot of things done but that leaves less time for working out. Not good.
I am better at planning things - guess who inspired me.
Food - better not say. I think my body thinks we'll be going into hibernation and need to stock up for long months of famine.

Being proactive with the food is a great tip! We just walk mindlessly into parties and eat whatever is put in front of us, like it's expected of us. No wonder we all put on a spare tyre at this time of year!
Working:

*Mixing things up with my students while being consistent/structured.

*Eating fewer granola bars.

*Avoiding the "We love schools/teachers" onslaught of junk (til I caved and enjoyed 2 pieces of chocolate today...)

*Getting Christmas cards mailed and finding addresses...so I didn't have to ask my parents! :-)

*Great e-mails with a friend that push me deeper and deeper and deeper into stuff I need to reflect on.

Needs Improving:

*Sleep patterns...

*Weather...we're 20 below the avg. temps here... hmm...

*Snow days.. if it's gonna be cold, we could use a day of three off from school......... believe me the kids would CHEER! :-)
What's not working for me is running in the deep freeze. What's working for me is running in the deep freeze instead of the treadmill!

Great fireplace!

What's working:
-discovering dried mango slices in the bulk food section at Whole Foods... mmmmm! :)
-getting extra sleep during my off-season
-my team getting a 50% off gear deal with Specialized... hello, new carbon-soled tri bike shoes! (If only this deal applied to bikes! That would REALLY be working for me!)

Not working:
-long meetings at work. I just can't sit still for longer than an hour!

Unfortunately... nothing is working this week... being on crutches and in a knee brace really bring your training and life to near halt :(

What's working is I'm getting a lot done (Christmas stuff).

what's not working is I'm overwhelmed and not getting all the running and biking in that I'd like...

I absolutely love the tv fire...I need that...Luke is so frustrated that we don't have a fireplace!!!
