Tri Trainer Tuesday: Then and Now Baby!

1. One year ago- here's me spinning on the Compu Trainer. I'm spinning (or at least attempting)  at a ~110 cadence. Notice the body position...
2. One day ago- here's me spinning on the trainer. (The DH gets the computrainer, I get the stationary trainer...it's cool, it's cool). And what's the difference you ask? Well, I can now spin in the aero position at ~115-120 cadence for 30 min. A year ago... I didn't even attempt to spin in the aero position.

Now to me, this is growth! And the kinda I like experiencing vs. my pant size. HA! So I'll take it! I'll take whatever I can get at this time of year baby!

Now how about you? What run/bike/swim/strength growth are you experiencing from a year ago? Would love to know!

Also, if you haven't entered the ~$100 COOLMAX® EcoMade Socks Giveaway Extravaganza! whatch ya waitin' for?  Winner announced this Friday!

Great job! I love spinning in aero. Everytime I get in aero I just feel the need to hammer! Drives my friends crazy!

That's great! You look like a total pro!

One year ago I couldn't even run out of the way of an oncoming car or to beat out an expiring parking meter. Now I can run!

Good job!

I can run about 3 times longer than I could this time last year :-)

Wow! 115-120RPM for 30 min?! That's incredible.

I think my biggest change from this time last year was how I used the trainer. At this time last year, I used to just spin in zone 2-ish to get "base miles" and watch a movie... but not really feel like I was accomplishing much. I started working with my new coach in Feb and she immediately had me doing shorter, high intensity trainer intervals. I'd rather do an hour of high intensity intervals on the trainer than a 3 hour easy trainer ride any day, and I saw some big improvements this year so it definitely paid off.

Last year I had a small baby and was struggling with a 5k. This year I am preparing for a half marathon!

Wow--nice work! Coach Troy would be proud--when he lived her in Md we used to have real spinervals classes and every once in a while we'd do "spin-offs". Pretty sure you would have won!

Does water running count? I'm up to 58 minutes.
The only change to my fitness routine is that I now sort of have one. I'm not pushing myself nearly enough, but at least I'm going to the gym fairly consistently these days.

Very very impressive!
I'm afraid I'm declining with old age and am happy simply to have not snapped an ankle or a hip.

Totally worth getting on blog land for a few minutes....to see your photos that totally make you look like a hard core athlete...inspiring really. Oh, this and reading about EMZ (Emily's) marathon recap! :)
OK, so your hubby gets the computrainer....what's up with that? I hear that is an amazing training tool...fight for it AM:)
Awesome job on the spins!

Anna Maria-

It was his to begin with...then I became more serious too, so we share it. And for this time of year, I don’t need to monitor power/watts etc. Just my cadence so it’s cool

But I will come mid 2011...;-)

Thx!

Wow, it’s weird to think about but this time last year I could barley run 2 miles (seriously). I started training for and ran my first half marathon and followed that with a metric century bike race and a few triathlons. So I see a HUGE difference from this time last year. Now I can run 16+ miles, ride 40+ easily and swim a mile plus. Last year’s big goal was the half marathon, this year it will be a full marathon, half ironman and an ultra marathon. The bad thing is that I still have bad form on my road bike, something to work on in the new year =)

Oh, and I want your arms!!!

Awesome! And you look like you are enjoying it! This past year I have made great gains in swim times! Woo hoo!

You are an awesome athlete and your pictures prove it! Nice spinning job! My running growth this year was definitely speed. I hadn't thought about that until now. Thanks for the question!
One year ago I could barely run at all. This past October I ran a half marathon in 1:45 and doing my first full in May.

i am confused.....i thought aero position was easier ? uh oh. i don't have aero bars but need to get them ...please give me more advice ......

last year i didn't think running 8 to 8.30 min miles in a race was possible (5k) now i can do it.

Awesome! After I got my tri bike, I did all of my trainer rides on it in the aero position. Now, when I ride out of aero, it just feels weird!

Let's see, one year ago I said I would never do a marathon. Now, I've done one and am training for another. So, I've definitely had growth with my running! Woohoo!

This time last year I was 20 pounds, and at least 2 (maybe 3) pant sizes bigger. I couldn't run 30 seconds straight even if a bear with a chainsaw was chasing me. I didn't own even ONE single "fitness" item other than my Jane Fonda workout video and my G-ball (with the never-been-opened DVD set). I hadn't been on a bike in maybe 30 years (I'm 41). And, I hadn't been swimming (legit swimming) since the one semester in college I took a class to learn how.

Right now, I have several 5Ks, 1 8K, 1 10K and two half marys under my belt. I'm regularly running a 10:00 pace (with intervals of down to 7:30). I have a more gear than I care to admit to...and I actually KNOW what a bike trainer is (and would love to have one). I'm still new on the bike (my longest ride has been 15 miles). And, I can swim freestyle for a whopping 50 yards without stopping (gotta start somewhere, right).

Thanks for reminding me...I might not be where I'm going, but I'm also not where I was!! :D

I'm mostly growing wider than I was at this time last year. Time to start training again!
