What's Working...and Not So Much Wednesday!

1. I'm excited for this one...sportin' my hair in two low braids for my runs. Yes! It works genius because it keeps the hair off my neck, doesn't get my hair all in knots, and....my hair is finally long enough to sport the look and have em' touch my backThis is the longest my hair has ever been. EVER!  I feel like a kid havin' the braids tap my back. Now I just need to work on my braiding talent...the braids could use a lil' TLC...

2. Gettin' the water in each day. I'm making a conscious effort to sip from my water bottle every time I think of it (just did so now as I typed this;0).

What's NOT Workin' so Much:
1. Can ya take a guess from the lil' pic above? It's my kid's leftover breakfast. The perfect few bites to casually snack on. So I have a few bites there, a few bites of lunch leftovers, snack leftovers, dinner leftovers, and so on, and on, and on! I swear it's the stealth culprit for mystery weight gain. I gotta blame somebody right???;-)

2. My achilles tendon is pretty sore. Didn't want to dwell on it, but it's sore. So I'm running two vs three days this week, and icing/stretching it.

That's what is basically working and not for me. How about you? What's working and not so much this week? Also, if you've dealt with Achilles tendon pain, what have you done?

I love the braids! I may have to try that myself!

What's working for me this week: so far I am following the training plan well. What's not working this week: the usual culprit-lemon pound cake!

cute hair!!
I mark down everything I eat on Livestrongs daily plate. Its quick and easy and keeps me accountable and less likely to take those bites :)
Hey,it's off season, everyone is getting fat:) I like the hair!

The hair is adorable on you! Sounds to me like you're doing what you should be doing w/ the achilles. I have a friend w/ chronic achilles issues and she swears by laying on the floor and sticking her legs up against a wall. Who knows?
I had achilles issues all season, it honestly closed the door on one thing but opened it to something else that made it the ride of my short endurance career life. I ice it, stretch, calf exercises to strengthen it. Now I am starting to test it out again, but it is by far the most nagging injury I ever had

Stretches, taping it (works the best besides time off), icing it. I also have had to wear a boot for awhile to let it heal. It's one of those injuries that you want to not ignore because it could get worse and curtail any running. :(
cute braids~ i love long hair! and for your injury ice, stretch, and strengthen-focusing on eccentric calf control (ex: doing toe ups and slowly lowering off a step). i need to drink more water too..

Love the braids! Just got all mine cut off...itty bitty braids now.

Yay on the water! When the temp dips I have a hard time, so I drink herbal tea all day. That still counts, right?

Not Working: Strength training. I've tried for the past two weeks to get in a good rhythm, but I'm just not there.

The braids are super cute! I'm definitely going to try that on my next run!

What's working for me?? Sitting on my butt being lazy and recovering from my marathon! :)

love the piggies!!

Dude.. as soon as your kid gets up from the table throw the extras in the GARBAGE... immediately. That's the only way I can keep my fingers off it!

What's working: ONE cup of half caff coffee two days in a row. YEAH ME!

What's not working: manually programming the garmin. OOPS.

Love the hair. Take care of that achilles. Ice it a lot. I used to do ice/heat/ice/heat. Google eccentric stretching (email me if you can't find info).

You are so cute!
Every year for the past 5 years my New Years resolution has been to drink more water...how's that working out for me?? Glad to see you're keeping up with it.
I love your daughter's plate - I want one, too!!!

Cute hair! I wish I could do that with mine.

Take care of you achilles tendon - definitely such a great move to take it easy before it gets more irritated!

What's working for me this week is going to bed earlier! I have a lot more energy with even 15minutes more of sleep each night!

Love the hair! Don't love the achilles pain. I hope icing and stretching does the trick.

Working for me: cross-training and physio

Not working for me: eating vegan on the go..

ps - I helped someone up the stairs with a pram today and thought of you and the random acts of kindness. It feels so good to just help people whenever you can :-)
Working:

Athlete- getting runs in, yep! Yoga, not so much. :-( Swim...not likely this week.

Teacher- walking down the hall and being APPLAUDED my appropriately-sitting students when I arrived late two days in a row to class (meetings........)

Can I say HOW much this made my mornings? Really, I may never walk a catwalk, but I got APPLAUSE from my EIGHT GRADERS!!!!!!! :-) :-)

Yrbk Adviser- Sales are steady....the word is getting out... the Boo Pops are a huge hit along with the Fun Dip (lick-m-stick stuff...ya know :-)

Relative- Heading to visit the parents for the weekend...forget mailing cards...I'll be there in person. :-)

Food- 3 new recipes done on Sunday...2 very good; 1 needs tweaking.

Improvements:

Food- 5.6 lbs of chocolate in my classroom....... uh oh (I've only had a few pieces I promise!!!)

Food 2- inconsistent on eating healthy.... not holding myself accountability (not wanting to be "bad cop"..... must change this perception)

Teacher- I need to learn to get in/out of situations... really, it's okay if I don't add my thoughts to an unplanned meeting.... just get the errand done and LEAVE

Water...ahh.. it rained today.. not inside of my body, but it will.. :-)

Love the braids... been trying to do that, but the hair is too thick...and stubborn. (So today I tossed it under a cool weather hat and sweated more! :-)

I love 2 braids...I cut my hair, so it does not work as well! But I love the convenience!
Also....snacking on kids left over...try having 5 kiddos who leave food for me...BIG PROBLEM!! =)

Try Peaceful Mountain Tendon Rescue for your achilles. It's got arnica in it, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. Also, Peaceful Mountain Muscle Ice is great if you want a cold Biofreeze-like effect. I use these both ALL THE TIME. Not sure if it's mental or not, but they seem to work for me.

Also loving the braids! Cute AND functional!

Echoing the "toss the scraps". I have started working to UNDERserve the kids and then give seconds... cuts down on the scraps.

Working for me: letting go of needing to find the perfect whatever to make my run perfect... lol. Just put on a darn t-shirt and GO!

Not working for me: feeling in a rut due to running the same route (out of necessity) and getting impatient on pace and mileage.

Love your blog!
You look cute sportin the braids! I haven't worn my hair in braids in about a year and was just thinkin about that earlier this week!

What's workin: me... extra hours! lol ;)

What's not workin: eating healthy! fruits and veggies are non-existant this week :(

Not working for me: my kids' schedules!!!!!

You rock those braids!

I strained my Achilles' tendon a couple of years ago and had to try to stay off it for months. It was a long recovery. The fact that you can still run is great news, but make sure you rest it a lot in between runs and try to stay off it when possible.

The braided pigtails are super cute on you! Braiding is an awesome way to keep your hair from getting tangled during a workout/race.

What's working for me- getting back to masters swim twice this week after a month out... I really missed it!

Hope the achilles tendon feels better soon!

Love your braids. I usually have mine in a ponytail and then, braid it. I like to feel my ponytail bouncing around. :)

I have been stretching more this week, even though it is probably no enough. I'm working on that.

I know that I would not look as good as you in those super cute braided pigtails:) You look great!

Very cool that you started a new 5K running group! You are going to have a blast!
