You Know You're a Tri/Runner Freak When...

This week for some reason I've had a lot of instances where I caught myself chucklin' and shakin' my head realizing what a Tri/Runner Freak I can be. And I KNEW y'all could both relate and add to the list...

You KNOW You're a Tri/Runner Freak When...

1. You FREAK out when you realize you don't have any face makeup sunblock on!

2. You care more about your running shoes than any other pair you own.

3. You hang your training clothes on the dry rack WAY, WAY more than any other.

4. You'd pay $100 for an entree race fee in a heartbeat, but SUPER debate whether you have the cash for a girl's dinner nite out.

5. When you drive the kidz to camp in the am, you size up all runners out on the street: their gait, cadence, form, everything.

I know I could go on and on. And I realized I actually did back in February. I remembered I had written virtually the same style post, and that was fun to re-read.

So now all you crazy fellow runner/tri freaks out there in the House, talk to me!  Add to this list baby! Keep me chucklin' and shakin' my head!

You know you're a Tri/Runner Freak When...

ok so #2 is not me [I'll blame it on my business/career] but #4 --- awesome!!

GREAT POST!!
- I can drop $90 on a tri top, but will walk away from a $50 dress shirt because it is too expensive.

- On a training ride, you see a bike in front of you and you zero in on that rider, chasing them down like in a race

- If you dont catch said rider, you blame your bike, not giving props to said rider for being just faster then you.

- You run marathons, how cute

- You were your most prestige race shirt to a group workout as a sign of bragging rights

Great post! Here's my additions:

You know you're a triathlete freak when...

1. You pass up going out on a Fri/Sat night with friends to stay in, or cut the night out short, because you want to get up at the crack of dawn the next day for a long ride/run.

2. You pass a cyclist while driving and rubber-neck to see what kind of bike they're on.

3. You spend >$1400 on race entry fees alone (not related travel/hotel etc) for one year.

4. You pass up free pizza at work because it's not healthy training nutrition.

5. Your racing bike costs more than your first car did.

Love this post. So true. I don't think twice about spending money on running shoes but think waaay too much before I plopped money on a regular pair of shoes.

I love wearing my running clothes and race t-shirts around the house and doing errands.

I also decide when my meal times are going to be by first deciding when I want to run. Then, I'll subtract a few hours.

Your husband wants to go camping for the weekend and you check online to see if there are any races near the campground that weekend.
1. You stare at traffic and wish you had someone to drive your car home, because you know you could run/bike the distance faster.

2. You plan how much food you must take with you when visiting family who doesn't eat like you do (and options are limited where they live).

3. You live without A/C in the summer, because 3 months of electric bills could be better spent on other things... and it's just more heat training/acclimatizing afterall.

4. You see a patch of woods near where you live, knowing that there are no trails, and wonder the logistics on getting trails put in there (so you're not arrested for tresspassing...).

5. You think of alternative uses for spider webs (like all-natural hair spray or fabric) on your runs because they are so wonderfully thick and frequent.

6. You have considered how many ways you could repurpose your handheld if an emergency arose.

7. At the end of the year, your students run laps around the classroom to imitate you. (Note- we did "appropriate" spoofs of everyone last June...)

These are great! I can't think of any after reading all of these! :)
this is too funny. I just checked out some dude running on the road (on my way to go running)... and fully analyzed his style. whoa!

How about looking up races every time you go on vacation?

Oh my god, these are freaking great.... My contribution:

People ask you about your plans for the weekend, and you say, "Well, I am running 13 miles on Saturday morning, then that afternoon I am swimming across Pleasant Pond. On Sunday I am riding 50 miles..."

I recently did a post like this, too - so many great ways to tell when you're a TRI freak!!

* You can spot a race shirt a mile away (especially if it's a race you've done before)

* When you see a man with shaved legs, you don't think it's strange at all
haha!! #1 I dont wear makeup or sunscreen ever but the other ones are so true!! haha... and reversing what misszippy said "picking a race and then saying it's 'vacation'" haha

you think peeing yourself is normal as long as its on a bike or while running.

you think its cool and normal to talk about peeing and poop

My bike and running shoes cost more than any other pair of shoes I own.

2 and especially 3! Must get the workout gear dry ASAP!

you have a bit of anxiety over taking a rest day.

you are always thinking about being fueled for your next workout and eat accordingly.

you get up at ungodly hours to work out

you take better care of your bike than your car

These are all awesome! I kept getting the follow-up comment emails and thinking, "oh yeah, forgot about that - good one!" It's good to know there are so many others like me out there :)

This came to me on my run last night -- add might be more of a personal pet peeve, but...

You know you're a tri/running FREAK when someone sees you in running clothes/shoes and says "Oh, are you going jogging?" and you have to bite your tongue to keep from snapping, "I don't jog, I run!"

Ok someone touched on this but I thought of another one...

You actually BRAG about peeing yourself.
Aside from n1, I completely relate.

Others..
1. When you search amazon weekly to see if another new tri/running book just came out.
2. When your hair is all dried out and you'd rather not miss a workout than get a hair cut/treatment.
3. Same for nails..
4. When you have more toes than toenails.
5. When you keep telling your spouse, "You know after tri training, I'll have more time for X, Y, Z" and he shakes his head coz he knows you'll be training for another race.
6. When you take on extra work and use the money towards getting a tri bike.
OK, I should stop, but I really could keep going on..

yeah, somehow the viagra comment doesn't ring as relevant to being a tri/runner freak; just a freak (the comment, not the use of viagra...ho hum).

I totally freaked the other day when I was running and realized I had forgotten sunscreen as I am a sunscreen junkie.

my list:

When you are sitting on your street (in NYC) and scrubbing out your drivetrain with a toothbrush.

I can name all the clothes I have bought in the last 3 months and they are ALL tri gear.

I arrange all my social engagements around my training schedule.

when I walk in the house in the morning and my 4 year old asks me how my swim, bike, run was.

I fail an interval run and start sobbing uncontrollably....yes, I am that 'freaky'

These are hilarious. Some one already covered the peeing oneself. So I'll add...after you fuel during a run you can hock a loogie better than any trucker.

I thought of another one I had to share since I don't think it's been touched on yet... I think I will have these running thru my head for awhile now :)

You know you're a tri freak when --you don't think twice about wearing your compression socks in public after a workout. (My co-workers have become used to seeing me in compression socks, sandals, and shorts/skirts in the summer. Thank goodness for a casual office.)
