What's Working Wednesday...and Not So Much

 What's Working:

 1. My new swim basket. I bought it at the Dollar Store ~1 mo ago and I swear it's one of those 'DUH' moments. For the longest time I've been schleppiin' my swimwear/gear in my normal gym bag,or with my hand, so half the time I forget about it all, or it gets all skunky. But not with this $1 plastic basket! I just store everything in it: goggles, cap, swimsuit, and paddles. There it lays in the back of my car, drying out for the next round.

What's NOT:

1. My SUPER oversized, worn out swim suits. Folks...I haven't bought a new swim suit since January. JANUARY! Every single one of my suits are so freakin' baggy I just consider them all drag suits at this point.

2. Doing my speed workout on a park walk path. I thought it'd be perfect. It's a .4 mile loop. but half way through my first set, I realized this surface is probably the worst for my feet, legs, back and body. It's just concrete. ugh. not bueno. I wish I could use the high school track during school hours!

That's what's happening for me at the moment. What's working for you this week, and/or not so much?

Comments

The basket is pure genious
I have a question for you and now is the perfect time to ask!

I am curious - how has writing down your goals for the week (consistently over the last year and a half) affected your life? How do you make the distinction between your goals and your list of "things to do"? At the end of the week, if you have not fulfilled on a goal, how do you manage the feelings that come up? And finally, in your experience, what role do goals play in formulating and achieving one's dream?

Thanks! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Love you too much, heather

Good idea on the basket - I need something like that for the one whole day a week I swim...cuz I forget about it until the following week. Ick. And I haven't gotten a new suit since April of '09. I remember cuz I was in Boston and scored a great deal :). Good luck with new suit shopping!!!

Great idea with the swim basket! I love it! FYI, REI is having a huge summer sale right now and I just picked up a TYR durafast suit for $30 some bucks!

So far this week, my marathon training has been going well. And, I've had some quiet time to myself since my boys started school...awww!

What's working for me...the sweet potato breakfast! Seriously. It's a nice break from my usual granola, fruit, yogurt. Lately I've been putting salt and honey on the sweet potato. Thanks for the idea!

What's working for me? Stretching in the shower. I'm bad about stretching so, stretching in shower is working out ok for me so far.

What's Not?
Coming home to find people at your house, going from room to room. The same people that I saw less than 1 hour ago. You would think people would at least have the courtesy to call to let me know. I don't care if they are there. But do call.
Working:

*Making gluten-free apple-almond muffins last night (glorious lunch and snack toady!) :-)

*Taking 10 minutes after waking up for ME time (yoga, meditation, other).

*Changing my philosophy on teaching middle schoolers (still working out the kinks....)

*Long chats with co-workers (it's nice to have the PE and Science people to hang out with... they make Spanish more fun!)

*Taking Thursday off to make it a Swim Morning :-) Friday, too! :-)

Awesome idea on the basket!!

For the stretched-out swim suit issue, try a Speedo Endurance brand suit. It's made of a different fabric than "regular" suits, and I don't know what the secret is, but it doesn't get stretched out or fade much with the chlorine. (Supposedly they last for years - I haven't had mine that long but I know people who have.) FYI - I got mine for $28 as a "grab bag" suit from overstock.com which was over 50% off regular price.

Maybe drag suits help build endurance?!

I scored a Speedo suit for $7 at TJMaxx this week. That's REALLY working for me!! Since it is the end of summer Im sure you can stock up on new suits at a great pice.
What's not working for me?
I need to get my nutrition back on track. Too many treats this week.
Foot pain post 20 mile run from Sunday; I need to get some miles!!
Hopefully an ez jogger run this morning with Lola.
Happy Thursday!

What's working?
Strength training legs after my run. Writing my kids whole day on a big dry erase board. They check each thing off as they do it...love it!

What's not?
My eating plan. Needs some major tweaking 'cause I do great all day then snack in the evening. I'm working on a written daily plan like yours for next week!
Also not working? The neighbor's St. Bernard. It attacked my dog yesterday (this is the second time) and they refuse to keep it under control.
