Training Tuesday: ACE Personal Training Re-certification
So I don't know how many of you know my 'Story'. (Naw, it doesn't involve any international diamond heists, or steamy scandals...shucks!) This is the one where I used to be a school teacher/counselor for the past ~umpteen years, and two years ago in July 2008, jumped ship to test out the Personal Training (and SAHM) waters. So I became ACE certified, and USAT Level 1 certified as well, and worked with a total of ~15 clients.
Then came January 2010 and I realized what I really wanted to do was just be with the kids, and focus on my OWN HIM training and all it involves. So I didn't pursue clients, and focused on my training.
Well now my ACE certification expires at the end of this month. And I was a bit on the fence if I even wanted to go through the hoops to re-certify. I needed 2.0 CEU's which = money + tests. But I just didn't know if or when I'd take clients again? But I realized the credential for it's education was worth it.
So, I saw the most practical way in attaining these CEU's was through taking their monthly newsletter quizzes, each worth .1 CEU. Sounds good in theory right? But man, today it was a DOOZY in practice!
I had allocated ~maybe 2 hours to get the tests done. Uh, yah, don't know what I was thinking, because I didn't realize how long it takes to take TWENTY quizzes online! And if you have the actual magazine, it gives you the answers to the questions! How ez/cool is that? But I just couldn't bring myself to taking the answer with out seeing if I really knew it myself. The pic above is ~11 of the ~20 tests I took online. And I'm still not done! I have 2 more to complete (and these 2 I don't have the privilege of having the answers).
But taking all the quizzes was interesting. I learned more than I thought I would. For instance did you know:
1. Research suggests that a child may need to be exposed to a healthy food as many as...
a.3 times
b.5 times
c.10 times
d. 15 times
Which would you pick?
I picked b.5, and was wrong. The answer will be at the end of this post;-) Or:
2. During water workouts, heart rate is lower than during land workouts:
a. Because of the hydrostatic pressure that occurs in water
b. Due to the fact that the body doesn't sweat when submerged in water
c.Because the buoyancy of water reduces the need to recruit the core musculature
d.Due to the emphasis on concentric muscle contractions
I didn't know, but got it right. Answer again at end of the post;-)
So why am I blabbing all this to you? Because, while I realize I might not use my ACE or USAT Level 1 certification tomorrow to train other's, it's good education for me. And it keeps me in the game. Whatever game I decide to play: Writing, Training, Personal Training, etc.
Now, my question to you: Do you have any Tri, Running, Training certifications? If so, how do you use them? Oh, and a reminder that today is the last day to enter my $60 CSN Giveaway. Winner announced manana!
oh, and the ANSWERS: 1. d, 2. a

Good luck with the last two quizes!
I have meant to comment a dozen times, but it seems like every time I go to comment, my kids have an instant need for my assistance. I just have to say....CONGRATS on your awesome race! I know I am late to respond...but I was so pumped for you! I LOVE to see mom's follow through and be SUPER STARS in fitness. (Now I just need to do it =))
As always...LOVE your Goals!
I knew the answer to the first question. I have a 4 year old and have heard this a few times.
I did not know #2. I thought it might have something to do with cooler water temps, not water pressure...oh well...I'll take 50%.
I'd love to see more of the Qs from online quizzes... love that stuff!
Good luck :)
I was just thinking that I should explain why ACE vs. NASM or NSCA. Frankly, I did ACE bc for me it was the 'easiest' of the more credible assoc's to get certified. They test also on the behavioral/social emotional stuff (I know that stuff from my Master's in counseling), and the others are WAY more anatomy based...something I'm not quite as good at;-0
Best of luck on your last 2 tests!!!
I think it is so awesome that you are getting recertified! You have accomplished so many things in such a short time and are going to be a fantastic mentor:) Good luck with those last two quizzes! Piece of cake...no worries:)
To answer your question about eating on my blog. I ate the steak that I didn't finished last night that my boyfriend saved and some yellow squash.
Good luck with this, i'm sure you'll do fantastic and it's something to fall back on eh?
