Three Things Thursday!

Hi there! Look how cute the members of Athleta Team 2 Van 1 are? And this is on Day 2...where our brain cells and muscles were feelin' the affects of ~24 hrs into The Relay. I'm on the far left and just finished my last leg of the race (and kid you not my stint ended 1 block from my swimmer bf's house in Menlo Park! She took this pic!). And yeah, the race took a lot out of me, which is why I haven't been able to write another post til now. So here are my 3 things:

1. I wrote a general race report, and passed it along to the Athleta Chi blog, and I don't know how much they'll use...so I'm holding out posting until they put up their post, which I'm hoping will be next week sometime.

2. I heard back from my nutritionist about my daily intakes and caloric needs!  She used the Mifflin equation to see that I need only ~1484 calories on a basic level (w/no training) and 2226 calories given my current training. I've been eating more calories than needed last week (~2500, and not including the crazy Relay wknd), and not the right types of complex carbs/protein to fuel my workouts. I looked up Mifflin equation and found this site to calculate daily caloric needs. I'll write more about it as I work with her rec's;-)

3. God Bless all of you who need to eat Gluten Free! I've been taste testing a few gluten free nutrition bars this week...and oy! They just taste, well not good at all! I now understand why you are attempting to make your own bars, food etc, because from what I've tasted so far...there's not a whole lot of options out there.

That's what's on the brain at the moment. Let me know what you think of the caloric calculator. And I'm not a gluten free gal, but this whole taste test has me curious: What gluten free bars out there do you like??

This calculator is giving me about the same number I get from other sites, give or take 20 calories which is really not much of a difference considering how inaccurate measurements are for food calories.

Can't wait to read your relay report.

As for energy bars, I make my own mostly of dates, nuts, cocoa, lemon peel and whatever else I feel like putting in.

Y'all look adorable sporting your athleta gear.

Wow! That has say I only need ~1900kcal. I'm hungry all the time when I'm training and I eat more than that. Most of what I eat is good quality food to (not junk). I'm not sure I could make myself cut my intake down that severely. I'm 1/3 of the way there and I've only had breakfast and morning snack. Jeez. Gotta rethink my lunch and dinner.

I've never made my own bars. I should b/c my girls would love them.

boy oh boy... I would so love to work with a nutritionist. I am trying to eat healthy and the right stuff for training, but I sometimes wonder if I am eating enough or the right stuff..

Love the pic!

Ha, no wonder I can't lose weight, I'm up in calories WAY more than this site suggests. Well,I am doing a lot better this week and down a couple but wowzie, thanks for the link. I'm going to be more diligent about monitoring this nutrition thing. I'm guessing your nutritionist would put the axe down on the ice cream and pizza I had last night??? (haha, jk. I didn't really...but I have done that before!!). Does your nutritionist have you eating 6 smaller meals a day? I was working with one once, who was also my trainer, and I swear we were adjusting my meals soooo much! I really struggle while at work so had to up my calories during the early hours of the day...which worked for me at the time. Need to get back to that. Thanks for always inspiring me with my nutrition! And great pic of the relay...they are sooo much fun, eh??!! Happy Weekend, AM (almost).

That pic is so cute of all of you! I can't wait to hear about the race. :)

Hooray for going to a nutritionist! That calculator is interesting. It says, when training, I should be eating around 1800cal. a day. That seems low to me, but I don't really monitor my caloric intake, so I don't know! I think I'll pay attention to my calories this week and see what I get! Thanks for sharing the link!

I LOVE your top! What a blast I'll bet you girls had. I need to throw down the gauntlet look at that site. I'm sure I eat way too much most times. No experience with gluten free.

there are definitely good GF products out there like Heart Thrive, but you have to do some looking!

Great picture and I can't wait to read your race report!

As for GF, my youngest son recently outgrew his wheat allergy (hooray!). When I was nursing him, I had to be GF too. I like Enjoy Life, Lara, and Kind bars.

I'm kinda dreading checking out the calorie calculator...

You all look fantastic in your fancy Athlets running gear:) I am looking forward to reading the full recap!

If anyone finds any good tasting gluten free bars...I want to know where I can purchase them. I have issues with my digestive system and have to be careful with what I eat. Thanks Anne Marie:)
Thanks for posting the link. Interesting I am only suppose to eat 1571 calories when I workout. Doesn't seem like alot.
Awaiting your report!

For me I think the calculator is way off. Says for the kind of training I do (very active) I only need 1600 calories per day. I would seriously lose weight and keel over if I tried to do that. Maybe I did it wrong??? Or am reading it wrong??

The whole calorie thing can be so depressing sometimes! I was looking at a chart recently and calculating that my 9-yr. old son gets to intake more/day than me. Seems unfair! I'm going to check your calculator out--thanks.

It seemed a bit on the low side to me. The number it gave me is one I usually lose weight with (if I ever stick to that amount.)

Can't wait to read more about the race.

Thanks for posting a link to the calorie calculator - I will definitely check that out. I wish I could have a nutritionist!

I love your picture! You still always inspire me! Thanks!! =)
As for calories...I already know I am way over and it shows...Bummer! I really do need to be more cautious of it...then maybe i would have some results!

Ok, first, i love that pic. You all look great. I particularly love your shirt, got one just like it. :)
There is a ton of good info at that site in addition to the calorie calculator. I honestly have no idea if the calculator is right for me because I don't ever keep track of my caloric intake. I probably should because that may be the reason I feel so tired during parts of my training. Anyway, thanks for the link!
