Strollin' With My Babies

Yesterday, I ran a 10k race with my lil' 4 yr olds in the jogger stroller, and as I stated in my Sunday post, it brought me back to the first few years, where running with them was part of my daily routine. And because it was such a routine, I didn't think to take a lot of pics of it. But I do have these 2 coffee mugs above from 2 different 10k races, the one on the left when they were ~6 mo's (and yes, I look back now and think wtf? I actually jogged a 10k when they were 6mo's?! huh?), and when they were 1 1/2 yrs old.

And I remember back then, my arms felt like the handle of that stroller was a permanent fixture on me. I couldn't imagine the day that they'd be too big for the stroller. It just seemed SO far away.  Well, I think that day is almost here.

Because while we all had a lot of fun at the race yesterday, and they definitely enjoyed 'the ride', they are almost ~100lb combined weight, their legs were almost hitting the front wheel a few times, and the stroller is on it's last leg. sigh. yeah, it's almost time.

So I'm a little sad realizing the end of the stroller years is coming up. But not quite yet. I still think I have a good ~6-8 months left and I'll milk it baby.  How long did you have your kidz in the stroller?

And I gotta admit too, it was pretty cool to hear them ask repeatedly yesterday 'But Mommy, when do WE get to run in the race?'  Now that was music to my ears;-) To all the jogger strollin' parents out there-

I so can't wait to get out there with the kids this spring! It is so awesome to hear your kids wanting to do something that you do that is healthy for them....I don't know about you but I definitely started running wanting to give my children something to aspire to and to be a good example to them...and I've already heard...Mum what you doin? I wanted to go for a run with you! From a little 3 year old with hands firmly planted on her hips! It's so exciting seeing them grow into little people!

Hi Anne Marie,
I respect anyone who can run with a stroller!! I did not start running until my kids were older so I never had to. I know it must be challenging but help you strengthen your core and upper body:) The stroller helped you to get your rock hard running body!! Cute pictures:)

That is awesome!! My kids never would sit long enough in the stroller, so we ditched it when they were about 3.

Keep rocking the stroller and I love the mug!

My youngest is 4-1/2 and I haven't used the jog stroller for close to a year. Thing 2 simply won't sit for any length of time anymore without ordering me to pull over at a playground, etc. Yet I haven't been able to bring myself to get rid of it. Sniff. The end of a very sweet era. Love the mugs!

Those mugs are cool! Agree with Julie, it must be so difficult running with a stroller! So cute your kids want to get into running too, they have a great role model

I still can't believe you ran a 10K with both of them in the jogger! I have a 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 yr. old and my oldest is definitely getting too big for the stroller. It is a tight fit and his feet almost touch the wheel. I don't know what to do because I actually love running with them. It makes me sad because it is just more evidence that they are growing up too fast! My hope however, is that my oldest will get really good on his bike. That way I can run with my youngest in the jogger and my oldest can ride his bike next to us.

so impressed and love the mug photos...i never really got into running with the stroller for couple reasons. first - my little one would cry the entire time, which just stressed me out. Second, I suck at pushing that thing and trying to run. i use to do it with my first a bunch and i had a reebok jogger, but then with the 2 i got the mountain buggy and it just didn't pan out the way i thought. i would get the bob if i did it over. but now i don't think i could bribe them to sit in a stroller while i ran, thy would prefer to run with me.

Too big for the stroller? Like I said in my post, my little one is plenty small enough, she just refuses.

I also never run with her in it. I get "Out! Out! Want OUT!" after about 100 yards.

My kiddos still fit in the stroller. But the big one isnt going to fit much longer. Hopefully she'll learn to ride her bike well enough to ride next to me.

Those mugs are awesome!
Your amazing..6mo and racing!
I always seem to have too many little ones to fit in the double stroller...that is why I hit the treadmill!
But i have to say, the few times I have run with the stroller...IT IS TOUGH!!!!!!
Awesome post! I can't wait until it warms up so we can go running with our 8 month old. I'm sad she is too big to need the car seat adapter anymore. Isn't it amazing we want them to grow up but yet we don't. Time goes by so fast - enjoy the remaining stroller time! Thanks for reminding me to cherish every minute of mine!

Mamas running with strollers blow me away! A guy passed us on a hill yesterday with TWO kiddos in a stroller and I have never been so impressed. The one time I ran with SP in a stroller, I almost died, it is challenging. I imagine this transition pretty nostalgic for you right now since it combines two special things, running and your babies! I love the mug pictures!

Allow me to bow down at anyone running with a stroller with one kid, much less two. You r amazing. :)

How funny that I got an Athleta catalog yesterday. Found the shorts and the shirt you suggested. How fitted is fitted on the shirt and did your jeans size pretty much correlate with their size chart? I wear a size 4 in Levis and they are a little big and a size 2 in Old Navy jeans and they fit really well. I'm considering buying the size small shorts. What do you think?

It's funny, I've never minded giving away baby stuff as my kids have gotten older. But....I was sad the day I gave the jogger away! Fond memories. But like you said, they will be running some races soon too, and that's a whole different ball game. I do 1-mile fun runs with my youngest, and my older one has done a few 5ks now. It's a cool feeling to run with them and see them enjoy the experience!

WoW - I have a hard time sometimes with 1 3yr old in the jogger and you just pulled off a 10KM with 2 4yr olds. Koodos to you! Ah enjoy all of the moments you have left with them in that stroller. I LOVE that time with my little guy. We sing, play eye spy, chat, look at nature - FANTASTIC! Congrats on the race!
